A Case Study of Analyzing Logs of LMS in Flipped Classroom

This paper shows a case study of analyzing the log of a learning management system (LMS) in a flipped classroom. We investigate the relation between the preparation of students before class and their test scores through the LMS log. The teacher of a course in the case study gives the students a document and a quiz about the content of the next class through the LMS. Then, a simple test is conducted in the first 10 minutes of the class to evaluate the students' understanding of the content. We focus on the number of times that the students read the document and took the quiz. We also consider the time spent to take the quiz. We construct a decision tree from the log and the test scores to classify the students. We found some patterns from the tree to characterize students according to score categories, although the tree did not classify them perfectly.
