A new method for mapping fields in coupled cylindrical dielectric resonators

We report a new method to excite and image the fundamental mode in coupled cylindrical dielectric resonators (DRs). A microstrip line resonator was used to excite the fundamental mode in the first DR of the coupled DR chain and a `dielectric' pick-up probe was used to map the electric field patterns. The probe consisted of an open-ended tapered stripline sandwiched between two grounded dielectric slabs. Probe's field was polarized and its output was maximum for parallel fields. The experimental field patterns matched the analytical and simulated field patterns at 7.53 GHz.
