Natural contamination deposition characteristics based on Natural Contamination Testing Station

At the Kunming Natural Contamination Testing Station we chose the common Porcelain insulator, Glass insulator and Composite insulator to study the natural characteristics of insulators contamination hang by the way of I-string and V-string under two conditions of on-load DC power and AC power. We not only chose the regular Scrubbing method to measure the ESDD and NSDD, we also chose the new method of the conductivity of partial surface to study the natural contamination characteristics, the changing of natural insulator contamination with time has been determined, the ratio under DC and AC of ESDD and NSDD and the ratio of NSDD and ESDD was also determined. The research results showed out the differences of the ESDD, NSDD and partial surface conductivity, which provided a theoretical and experimental basis for the future UHV DC transmission line construction and flashover pressure test of artificial contamination.
