10-Gb/s PMD compensation using deformed-helical ferroelectric liquid crystals

Polarization mode dispersion hampers development of /spl ges/10 Gb/s trunk lines but can be compensated by endless polarization controllers and birefringent fiber. We demonstrate automatic 10 Gb/s polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) compensation using a DHF cell with /spl sim/0.1 dB attenuation, 6 Vpp, applied voltage, and /spl sim/200 /spl mu/s response time.
