A principle of power quality control in the intelligent distribution networks

There are some known methods for the improvement of power quality in the distribution and main networks. However, all these methods solve the power quality problem with a delay. The authors suggest using the available infrastructure of phasor measurement units that has been already used for monitoring the power system operation as a source of primary data at different points of the network. To this end, the sensors of instantaneous current and voltage values have been installed at the nodal points of the system (generators, distribution substations, consumer substations). This method involves the use of PMU infrastructure for continuous acquisition of data on instantaneous values of electrical currents and voltages. The smart meter proposed by the authors earlier is suggested as a primary tool for the measurement of the harmonic level and direction in different cutsets of the power systems. This procedure is performed online which allows continuous adjustment of electricity supply system to the operating conditions close to the optimal ones in terms of harmonic level in the supply voltage at the considered points of connection.
