Signalling traffic impacts in cordless-cellular integrated system

It is realised that all user and operator requirements in third generation systems, cannot be economically met by one system/standard, but by a set of systems and sub-systems, which are designed around a specific set of services, e.g. fixed, cordless, cellular, satellite and data networks. Clearly, there is a need for such systems to work together (integration/interworking) in a co-ordinated manner. One of the main problems to tackle in any integrated/interworking system, would be reduction of the signalling traffic. This paper focuses on the interworking between cordless and cellular systems, e.g. DECT and GSM. The signalling load in the interworking system through a mathematical model is estimated. Then effect of the proposed techniques in order to reduce the imposed signalling on the cellular system's network are examined. The results are presented through graphs.
