Asynchronous SIMD Architecture for Image Processing

The Asynchronous SIMD architecture is presented as an alternative to a normal SIMD architecture. The asynchronous SIMD architecture uses a Global Control Unit an array of processors ( each equipped with local memory and a control unit ) and an interconnection network. The architecture operates in two modes - the Configuration mode (during which the global control unit broadcasts instructions and the processors store the instructions in the local memories ) and the Execution Mode ( during which the processors execute the instructions stored in the local memories ) . The benefits obtained from the architecture are studied. lmage processing is identified as a target application area.
