Improving power reliably in hostile territory through solar energy — A case study of Gaza strip

In hostile circumstances the most vulnerable target to subvert the power of enemy is to destroy literally the power house of all activities i.e. Electrical Power Plants. In the conventional method of bulk power generation through thermal, hydro or nuclear power plant; any military attacks not only affects the power supply of the area but comes with high collateral damage due to blast of power system itself or a flood due to attack on dam. Therefore this paper proposes to invest for distributed power generation, more so because it has to be consumed in distributed fashion ultimately by user and it also saves heavily on GTD infrastructure as well as fuel. We propose a denomination of distributed solar systems in capacities of 1kW, 500W and 300W with investment cost $4000, $2000 and $1000. We conclude that not only this method pass the breakeven point of grid parity in 7.61 years, it also proved quite impregnable in case of enemy's air attack in hostile territories.
