System needs for dispersion compensation

In WDM systems, nonlinear cross talk such as four wave mixing (FWM) and SRS can be reduced by a nonzero local dispersion, which either reduces the walk-off distance of channel-by-channel nonlinear interactions or increases the phase mismatch for FWM.
