Precompensation of dispersion and nonlinearities in 10 and 20 Gbit/s WDM systems

We analyze WDM systems at 10 and 20 Gbit/s, with precompensation of each channel to minimize dispersion and nonlinear effects. We find that precompensation only reduces accumulation of dispersion and also mitigates nonlinear effects. We determine optimal conditions for both conventional and dispersion-managed WDM systems to significantly increase the obtainable transmission distance.
