A versatile, low-power platform for PHS silicon integration

The aim of this paper is to present current trends in PHS silicon based solutions, and more specifically what is being designed at VLSI Technology to provide optimized circuits for different kinds of applications. We first present what PHS involves in terms of applications: cell stations, handsets repeaters, wireless local loops and system-based features that the network provider can offer to the customer. Then we describe our design, and show how the methodology we followed enables us to quickly build a new circuit fitting the requirements of a given application: from the very low power handset to the high bandwidth capacity cell station. Power consumption is a significant criterion in wireless communication-not only with handsets but also with battery powered repeaters. We will show how we tried to save as much power. Consumption as possible when defining our architecture.
