Impact assessment of power electronics on experimental aircraft receiver

The article considers immunity of an airborne communication system against inter-modulation distortion caused by power electronic circuits which transform and stabilize voltage and frequency in the process of production and distribution of electrical energy. The article examines interfering influence of power electronics on particular part of a superheterodyne receiver, namely double balanced mixer AD831. We also simulated the same mixer in Micro-cap 11 simulation software. Interference was applied through the radio frequency input along with other received signals. Results of simulation are presented in the article and compared with the measurement carried out on the double balanced mixer AD831. A program for an automatic measurement is introduced at the end of the article. This program will be used in later stages of testing receiver immunity against inter-modulation distortion.
