A quasi-moving block redundant non vital system model for conventional single line absolute block railway system

Due to every increasing demand and need of a rapid urban passenger and freight rail transit system at affordable cost, it is required to enhance the present system capacity to meet these higher demands. The best adopted common methods are to increase the number of bogies of a train or to shorten the train separation intervals by using more effective block control means. In this paper a study on Indian railway two-aspect absolute block system signaling is attempted and we propose a quasi moving block system as a redundant non vital system model for class ‘B’ single line two-aspect absolute block signaling system and present an instantaneous adequate distance formula under this quasi moving block system. We also computed and compared the steady state capacity of a two-aspect single straight line for both absolute block system and quasi moving block system for different wait times and block section lengths. The train headways can be effectively controlled by reducing the wait time for line clearance, thereby enhancing the track utilization.
