Teaching black box testing

Historically, software testing received relatively less attention compared with other activities (e.g. systems analysis and design) of the software life cycle in an undergraduate computer science/information systems curriculum. Nevertheless, it is a common and important technique used to detect errors in software. This paper reports our recent experience of using a new approach to teaching software testing (particularly black box testing) at the University of Melbourne. Through this paper, we aim to increase the profile of software testing as well as to foster discussion of effective teaching methods of software testing.
