Vertical mode expansion method for scattering of light by cylindrical objects of arbitrary cross sections

Two applications of a vertical mode expansion method with horizontal boundary integral equations, are presented for the study of transmission of light through a subwave-length cylindrical hole in a metallic film and scattering of light by a silicon cylinder, where both the hole and the cylinder have arbitrary smooth boundaries. Numerical examples indicate that the method performs accurately and efficiently.
