A novel method for improving availability in telephone network of electric power utility

High availability is the main reason for building corporate telephone network of an electric power utility. In this paper is described a novel method for improving the availability, using pre-alarm detector based on the analysis and statistics of telephone traffic. Basic parameters for describing its efficiency are introduced: probability of false pre-alarm detection, probability of a detection miss, and mean time to detection. Detection is proposed in one, two and multiple number of steps, and their basic parameters are presented and compared.
