An evaluation of noise power using the weighted magnetic field product for Intra-EMC problems

A novel design method has been developed to solve the Intra-EMC problem in mobile equipment. Recently, there has been a great deal of interest in the deterioration of receiver sensitivity due to the leakage of noise into a receiver circuit via the antenna. To solve this problem, we developed a design method in our previous studies that could estimate the optimal layout of a noise source according to the correlation of magnetic distributions while considering the noise source polarization. However, the conventional method is limited to a relative evaluation. In this paper, we propose a new design method to estimate the coupling characteristics (S21) quantitatively by using the weighted magnetic field product, which is calculated from the magnetic field distributions of the noise source and the antenna. The effectiveness of the proposed method, which uses a TEG to simulate a portable telephone, has been verified. Furthermore, we achieved a good proportional relationship between the coupling characteristics (S21) and the weighted magnetic field product.
