A 5-mm diameter, piezo-scanning fiber device for high speed ultrafast laser microsurgery

Towards developing precise microsurgery tools for the clinic, we previously advanced image-guided endoscopes using low repetition rate amplified femtosecond lasers for surgery. To improve the speed of removal of tissue while reducing the diameter, here we develope a 5-mm diameter device delivering high-repetition rate laser pulses for high speed ultrafast laser microsurgery. Using this device, we successfully ablated scarred cheek pouch tissue within 50 ms. With further development, this device can serve as a precise and high speed ultrafast laser scalpel in the clinic.
