Adaptive Head Positioning Using Multiple Beams

A highly precise head positioning technique is important to the successful development of optical disk components for high-density storage systems. This paper reports on a new head positioning technique in which multiple beams with minute offsets (Δx) between them are employed diagonally across the data track. Data tracking involves selecting among these offset beams.
