Dynamic domain wall observation in amorphous materials subjected to bending stress

The dynamic Kerr magneto-optic effect is a powerful tool for surface domain observation on various types of magnetic materials. It is essential to make dynamic magnetic domain observations during an a.c. magnetisation cycle in order to understand the magnetisation process. This has been done using different techniques, most commonly by stroboscopic means, ie. by capturing data over a number of cycles of magnetisation. It has been verified that, this technique is feasable as the domain motion in repeatable up to a flux density level of 0.8T in the case of Metglas 2605SC. The dynamic domain motion was observed using a stroboscopic Kerr bench system which also incorporates a mechanism to apply external bending stress. The sample preparation was performed in the following manner; both surfaces of the samples were polished, annealed at 360^°C for 2 hours under vacuum and then bloomed. The domain studies were carried out when the sample was energized with induction magnitude up to 0.8T within the frequency range 50Hz to 150Hz.
