A load cell utilising and amorphous ribbon material as the primary element

There is an ever growing demand for the development of novel or the improvement of existing transducer technologies that will satisfy the quite hostile environments that common place in todays highly automated world. The widely reported superior soft magnetic and magnetoelastic properties displayed by amorphous materials have been exploited in a number of novel and existing transducer technologies. In the latter cam, the onus is on proving the implementation of the new material as the primary element in the existing scheme of operation provides such benefits as to warrant the subsequent change in technology. The actual composition of a particular alloy dictates the material properties and potential applications. In this investigation a selection of as-cast and annealed alloy compositions were examined under various electromagnetic operational conditions including variation of ambient temperature.
