Detection and localization of high resistance connections in quadruple three-phase induction motor drives

Owing to its intrinsic redundant structure, a quadruple three-phase induction motor drive can be successfully employed for applications requiring a high degree of reliability. Furthermore, the flexible power flow control among the four dc-sources can be usefully exploited in electric vehicles fed by separate battery packs. In this paper, the behavior of a quadruple three-phase induction motor drive under an unbalance of the stator phases due to high resistance connections is analyzed. In particular, a control scheme that can detect the stator resistance dissymmetry and ensure an undisturbed behavior of the motor drive, is presented. The effectiveness of the presented control scheme is verified by means of numerical simulations.
