Interference from Adjacent Satellite Systems in Mobile Satellite Communications

This paper introduces the effects of interference from Adjacent Satellite Systems affecting all applications of Mobile Satellite Communications (MSC) systems as a very important influence of Space constellations. The advantages and disadvantages of those effects are discussed and also are provided particulars about specific local environmental influence in Maritime MSC (MMSC), such as some of the noise contributions from the local ships, environment. These noise influences are introduced by atmospheric noise from absorption, industrial noise, out of band emission from ship's radar, interference from high power communication transmitters, interference from vehicles and shipyard noise. Specific issues related to blockages caused by vessels superstructures and motion of ship's antenna are concluded and a set of solutions are proposed to maximize the availability of satellite communication capacity to the mobile user applications at sea, on the ground and in the air.
