Reconfigurable thinned arrays

Thinning has been traditionally used to provide a spatial amplitude taper across large arrays to lower the sidelobes. The active elements have T/R modules while the inactive elements are connected to matched loads. If T/R modules with switches are placed at every element, then the thinning can be adaptively changed in order to either lower the sidelobe level or place nulls in order to reduce interference.
