A novel piezoelectric rotational speed meter

A novel piezoelectric speed meter which is similar to solid-state wave gyroscope based on direct and inverse piezoelectric effect is proposed in the paper. The hard core of the speed meter is a vibratory ring with circular inner surface and octagonal outer surface. The paper presents the principle introduction, structure design and experimental verification of the rotational speed meter. The mode test results show that the working frequencies of active and sense mode are nearly equal, which are approximately 1368Hz. The data from the experiment are analyzed to obtain the equation between amplitude and angular velocity. From the equation, the scale factor is 16.4mV/min/r and the correlation coefficient is 0.992. These results are more accurate when the angular velocities range from 100RPM to 700RPM.
