Design of 13.56MHz power recovery circuit with signal transmission for contactless bank IC card

In current years, contactless bank IC card is more and more popular along with the growing importance of financial security. Because of the much more high-power consumption IP cores that the bank IC card chip needed than other smart cards in consideration of security, it is really a big challenge for the design of RF front-end circuits to provide enough current so that every part of the bank IC card can work well. In this paper, a new design of RF front-end circuits for contactless bank IC card is proposed, which focuses on large power recovery and correct signal transmission. The RF front-end circuits proposed in this paper include a novel rectifier that has high power conversion efficiency, a novel LDO that can keep high stability without large capacitor and a demodulator that can correctly demodulate high speed 10% ASK signal. Besides, there are limiter, band-gap reference, clock recovery and power-on-reset in the RF front-end circuits. The circuits are designed in HHNEC13ee process, obeying ISO/IEC14443-2 type B. The post simulation result shows that the whole circuit can work well in the magnetic field intensity range 1.5–7.5A/m. At the farthest distance, i.e. 10cm, when the magnetic field intensity is weakest, i.e. 1.5A/m, the current that the RF front-end can supply is up to 6.7mA, enough to make the bank IC card chip work well. The RF front-end circuits will be taped out very soon.
