Spontaneous emission from within microcavity structures

Summary form only given. We present results of experimental studies on microcavity structures with the specific aim of investigating the competition between the different decay channels. We have measured the spontaneous emission rate of emitters embedded within a microcavity, both as a function of their position within the cavity, and as a function of the cavity thickness in the range (30-600 nm). Both of these dependencies are important because the thickness controls the dispersion of the cavity modes, whereas the position within the cavity determines the coupling strength to these modes. We built our microcavities from organic monolayers.
