Discrete multi-tone modulation for high-speed upstream communications on HFC networks

This paper presents a discrete multi-tone (DMT) physical layer solution for upstream transmission on hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) networks. It is shown that DMT achieves high spectral efficiency and offers resilience to the most common reverse channel impairments, including impulse noise, radio-frequency ingress, and spectral variability. The paper concludes that a DMT-based system is a cost-effective solution that enables efficient, robust reverse channel communications.
