A novel converter to enhance SRG performance

This paper presents a novel approach to increase the excitation flux in magnetizing state and prolong stored energy discharge in a Switched Reluctance Generator (SRG). This purpose is achieved by using a multi-winding SRG in which the coils in every phase can be paralleled in magnetization period and then shift to series connection in demagnetizing time. It's demonstrated that faster phase charging and more ideal generating function is achievable. Reconfiguration from parallel to series and vice versa is accomplished by a new Parallel to Series Converter (PSC). This accomplishment is first proved theoretically, and then through Finite Element (FE), the simulation of this model is developed. Finally, comparing the conventional asymmetric bridge with the proposed converter, its significant advantages are analyzed. Applying the new converter, excitation current reaches to about nine times higher than the Conventional Series Converter (CSC), and demagnetizing period lasts about three times longer than Conventional Parallel Converter (CPC).
