Scatter correction for two-camera coincidence imaging

A scheme for correcting scattered events in gamma camera coincidence imaging is presented and evaluated in line source, cold rod, and brain phantom data. The algorithm makes use of the difference in proportion of scattered and unscattered events in two types of data: data in which both detected photons are measured in the photopeak, and data in which one event is in the photopeak and the other is either in the photopeak or in a lower energy Compton window. For the acquisition parameters and system used, the correction, when applied to the more inclusive data set, yielded scatter fractions equivalent to the photopeak-only data, but with noise properties better than photopeak-only data. A modification to the algorithm allows even further correction of scattered data.
