The electroabsorption modulator as a combined photodetector/modulator for analogue optical systems

The electroabsorption modulator is a high performance and very versatile component in a wide range of optical communications systems. In this paper we assess the performance of this device as a transceiver for analogue optical systems and illustrate this approach using some experimental results obtained from a sub-carrier multiplexed link.
