Synchrophasor-based anti-islanding detection

During a loss-of-main or islanding situation, distributed generation units remain feeding a part of the electrical system without connection to the main power system. Although many islanding detection methods have been proposed in literature, and some of them are being used, there is currently no islanding detection technique that meets utilities' requirements in terms of operating times and performance, for all kind of island situations. This paper proposes a new synchrophasor-based islanding detection scheme based on the combination of angle difference and acceleration-slip techniques. Tests through dynamic simulation have been carried out to assess the performance of the algorithm for different island situations.
