Three-mode multiplexer in photonic crystal fibre

Simple all-fibre mode multiplexers were made by controllably collapsing air holes along a short length of photonic crystal fibre. The LP₀₁ mode and both LP₁₁ modes were excited from three separate input cores, with less than 0.1 dB of loss at the wavelength of 1550 nm.
