Artificial immune systems optimization of the absolute bandgap of photonic crystals

This work consists in the optimization of the absolute photonic bandgap (PBG) in two dimensional crystalline structures composed of air and tellurium by using the evolutionary algorithm artificial immune system (AIS). In order to analyze its performance, the absolute PBG for the TM12 and TE34 modes of triangular lattices have been optimized. The propagation properties of the crystals were calculated by using an efficient frequency domain finite element formulation. The performance of the evolutionary algorithm will be presented as a function of several parameters which control the evolution process (mutation ratio, number of individuals, elitism).
