Steady state analysis of autonomous wind energy conversion system for irrigation purpose employing induction machines using Python — A free and open source software

Rapid rise in the demand of electricity has focused on utilization of renewable sources of energy. Wind energy being most widely used renewable source of energy, is utilized for irrigation purpose. This paper presents a simple analysis of wind electrical system driving water pump for irrigation employing induction machines. Admittance model of the system is used in carrying out the steady state analysis considering induction motor's core saturation. The resulting system is investigated for varying wind speeds and torque input to the Self Excited Induction Generator (SEIG) at constant terminal voltage. The system is thus best described by a set of complex numbered, nonlinear, simultaneous algebraic equations. The steady state analysis presents an overview of the variations in frequency, generator terminal voltage, generator currents, excitation capacitance and motor torques with respect to changes in wind velocity and generator torque. The results are obtained with the help of Python. It is a powerful, dynamic and a general purpose language which is free and platform independent open source software with extensive libraries. In this paper an attempt has been made to use Python for solving the type of equations aforementioned and present the graphical results of the analysis.
