Biphasic behavior in thermal electrolytic generators using nickel cathodes

Thermal spectroscopy, with attention to background noise, enables accurate determination of sample activity and has revealed a biphasic behavior to the generated excess heat. Nickel cathodes (using ohmic thermal and other metallic cathodic controls) were examined versus either platinum or gold anodes in light water systems. The peak power amplification [/spl Pi//sub out//spl Pi//sub IN/=/spl Pi//sub N1/] was in the range of /spl sim/2.27 (+/-1.02). Peak power outputs have been in excess of 2 watts, with power densities (nickel) of more than /spl sim/7 (+/-4.3) watts/cm/sup 3/. There may be several reasons for the biphasic effect. The origin of the site of the heat shifts at different locations within the /spl pi/-notch.
