La Grande Complex LG-2 powerhouse

This paper describes the LG-2 powerhouse and related installations now under construction in north-western Quebec by “Société d'Energie de la Baie James”, a subsidiary of Hydro-Quebec, which has the mandate to manage the construction of the La Grande Complex. All power generation facilities are described, as are the principal characteristics of major electrical and mechanical equipment and auxiliaries. Particular emphasis is given to the study which was performed to determine optimum unit size, to the criteria used to match the generator capacity to a varying turbine output, and to the unit service and station service systems.
