Holographic interferometry for early detection of breast cancer

For noninvasive early detection of nonpalpable breast tumors, a system using holographic interferometry was developed. The technique described couples application of mild changes in pneumatic pressure to the breast-thorax region while double exposure holograms are taken. Preliminary results demonstrate that fringe pattern abnormalities derived from the interferograms correlate to inclusions within breast models and breast lesions within human subjects.
