The known fluorocarbon materials and future possibilities in the fluorocarbon-lithium power sources

The value of the standard formation enthalpy of all different natures of CF/sub x/ samples of fluorocarbons CF/sub x(sol)/ has been calculated statistically from all experimental series and found to be equal to 48.52/spl plusmn/1.63 kcal/mol. It is shown that the novel superstoichiometrical fluorocarbon of the general formula CF/sub 1.18-1.33/ is the most common fluorocarbon semi-industrial material in existence today. Its application in lithium cells gives a maximum theoretical electrical capacity close to 900 mAhrs/g. The theoretical estimations shows that extreme achievable discharge current density of a Li-cell made from hybrid cathodes on a low-temperature dicarbon monofluoride basis with "liquid cathodes".
