High-voltage multiple-conductor joints

Roper: I am not going to subscribe to the implications in the paper that this type of construction is the only one that will result in successful high-voltage joints, but I can subscribe to the statement that single-conductor cable joints which are made up in essentially the same manner as the joints on each of the three conductors in Mr. Peterson's three-conductor joints, are very successful. In Chicago we have about 750 single-conductor joints made up very much the same as the individual conductors in Mr. Peterson's metal-sheathed cable joint; that is, they have the reinforcement of the insulation, the extension of the metal sheath to the point of maximum reinforcement and then a tapering of the reinforcement as well as a tapering of the conductor insulation.
