Implementing radiation hardened sensors for computer aided teleoperation in a nuclear environment

Computer aid brings increased safety and performance in teleoperated activities, especially when the operator struggles with poor remote environmental perception. This is often the case of unstructured remote workcells, a frequent occurrence in nuclear applications. The paper reviews selected issues on radiation-hardened position and force sensing, addresses the problem of reliable communication links in such an environment and finally gives some examples of algorithmic approaches to be used in conjunction with radiation-hardened sensors.
