Electrical insulations manufacturing by using microwave energy

Manufacturing of electrical insulation with improved electrical features and meeting the requirements of the norms and standards in the field depends both on the electro-insulating material quality and on the technology applied. In case of capacitor-type electrical insulation of high-power generator terminals and bars, the insulation quality is negatively influenced by the formation of air-gaps between the insulation layers. The formation of air-gaps results in the accepted limits of delta tangent delta being exceeded and could ultimately result in failures due to poorly bonded insulation. To remove this deficiency, this paper presents a new technology based on the use of microwave energy which ensures a continuous fluidization of the resin impregnating the electro-insulating material. This new technology is the result of research by a team of specialists in the microwave and electrical insulation field.
