Space systems: Can they withstand attack?

Military space systems are not weapons themselves, but they do provide streams of data — in meteorology, warning and surveillance, navigation, and communication — that commanders need to make more effective use of their weapons. The growing military reliance on space systems makes it necessary to ensure that these systems can continue to function through all levels of conflict, even a protracted nuclear war.
