Modeling of hemodynamics in vascular networks with active smooth muscle constriction

Numerical models of hemodynamics in the human vascular system are used to investigate flow, pressure and volume pulse transmission in major arteries as well as blood flow in smaller arteries and arterioles of microvascular networks. A flexible software tool has been developed to simulate different scenarios of hemodynamics in complex vascular networks with respect to nonlinear wall properties, active smooth muscle constriction and pathological deformity of vascular morphology. The primary goals are the interpretation of experimental measurements and the prediction of modified hemodynamics in vascular surgery. The computer model and typical simulation results of blood pressure transmission in the vascular system are presented.
