Just last month, a new engineer spoke up in a staff meeting to explain the advantages of a design modification he had recommended. He made his point effectively, drawing a few helpful diagrams on the board and providing an example that clarified a technical detail for several managers in the group. The engineer spoke clearly, confidently, spontaneously. His explanation took about 3 1/2 minutes.
