Centralised control on the central line

The Central Line carries a fifth of all customer traffic, daily, on London Underground and is the busiest line on the Underground network. It is currently undergoing a #750m refurbishment programme. This paper sets out to describe the main control centre and the current status of the integration of systems in the control room to enable centralised control. It briefly describes the internal and external fault monitoring facilities of the various systems. The paper goes on to describe the various roles, responsibilities and working methods within the control room. It also emphasises the benefits of centralised control to the efficiency of the Central Line and discuss the problems encountered. There is a brief description of the training facilities available to control room staff and emergency fall-back facilities/procedures. The conclusion of the paper summarises the advantages of centralised control.
