Smartcards-the key to unlocking revenue growth

In the public transportation industry automatic fare collection (AFC) systems have traditionally played a role in protecting revenue for the transport operators and in reducing fraud. This paper presents an overview of AFC systems in use and planned, with particular emphasis on the use of contactless smartcards in this environment.
