Improvement on fuel consumption by intake manifold design development of gasoline engine

Experimentally, it was estimated that the construction of the intake manifold has a significant influence on the volumetric efficiency, as well as basic characteristics of a gasoline engine with the design of an intake manifold(runners) for the engine purposes. From the results, we can assume that the intake manifold, with variable lengths is needed, corresponding to an engine speed. Fixed length intake manifold is selected only for the average RPM of the engine which is generally estimated in highways of foreign countries, in order to get a better volumetric efficiency and other basic characteristics, for the most part of usage cases. However, we use a fixed length of engine intake manifolds; in Ulaanbaatar city heavy traffic cars not commonly require a high speed. We are proposing that the original designs of intake manifolds are not correctly suited for Ulaanbaatar city's traffic conditions. So we aimed to conduct studies to explore possibility of reducing fuel consumption by changing the original design of the intake manifold of a gasoline engine. Despite of that Ulaanbaatar also has a unique environmental condition; it's the coldest city in the world which makes engines consume more gasoline than usual on the frozen road. Therefore, fuel consumption related study is one of the most interesting topics in Mongolia. Through the experiment, the fuel consumption is measured in every after length change of selected engine runners in the slow RPM conditions. From the result of our research, it has been proved that the possibility of fuel efficiency can be existed by changing the length of intake manifold in Ulaanbaatar's low average speed traffic conditions.
