Intermittent and continuous automatic train protection

This paper has been produced as part of the course material for the Railway Signalling and Control Systems Professional Development Course provided by the Institution of Engineering and Technology in May 2012. The paper provides an overview of the basic principles of train protection and cab signalling for mainline railways and explains how these principles have been applied to the ERTMS/ETCS train control system.
