Wide-bandwidth, high sensitivity, optically pre-amplified receiver for 1580 nm band 10 Gb/s WDM signals

A wide-bandwidth, optically pre-amplified receiver at 10 Gb/s is demonstrated in the 1575-1600 nm wavelength range using a gain-shifted EDFA. It offers a sensitivity of better than -38.0 dBm at the bit error rate of 10/sup -9/.
